Welcome to the 20th Nordic Conference in Sociology of Religion

Majority Religion – Religious Minorities? Legacies and new relations in a European context

The aim of the session is to focus on religious majority and minority cultures as upholders or challengers of value systems in the contemporary European context. In increasingly pluralistic societies, where ‘religious values’ are called upon by members of both majority and minority communities as signposts for the future development of society, there is potential for both conflict and cohesion. Papers will address evidence from empirical research and/or theoretical reflection on the connection between religious affiliation and individual or group value formation and adherence.
